Synopsis

  • Shorty leads the party into a swamp to meet an old crone who may be able to help with Draven the Craven’s ill condition.
  • Canthereon struggles with his horse in the bog, and loses much of his gear when he is forced to release the saddlebags from his steed.
  • The witch helps the group make a potion to travel into Draven’s mind, which they all must consume and each of them fall unconscious instantly.
  • It seems Draven is stuck in some sort of perpetual dream state by the trauma from his encounter with the hell hound and the loss of his kin.
  • The party is challenged to find a way to free Draven from his mental prison, rousing him enough to reality to learn that the beast traveled into a nearby mountain.
  • Sadly, attempting to wake Draven the Craven from his madness leaves him mired further into his own consciousness and completely empty of all coherent thought.
  • Zhadjao slays Draven out of mercy, not wanting him to become a pet in the cage of the witch nor a burden upon Shorty, the party then prepares to set out, with Shorty asking them to avenge his tribe while he goes back to rebuild.
  • Venator confronts Shorty and – bluntly stating that he would not be assisting in this dangerous errand – Shorty takes offense, the two exchanging serious words before coming to blows.
  • Shorty, fueled by his anger at all that beset his people, knocks Venator unconscious, and so the party is forced to travel with him strapped to Canthereon’s Celestial Steed as they ride towards the mountain in search of the beast.

Synopsis

  • Jacob. The Heart of Tyr accompanies them as the party chases the ooze dragon – harassing it from horseback as best as they can – across the plains until it slams into a large rocky hillside.
  • Investigating the hillside the party is able to find nothing but a large crack and a sample of the black liquid the creature was dripping.
  • Inside the crevice they come upon an old dragon skeleton, a couple of large cracks that emanate strong magic, and nothing to indicate the creature’s origin or where it went.
  • Vincent feels an uncontrolled eruption of magic.
  • The party travels back to the entombed Rose, however they find nothing but shards of ice and wagon tracks heading West.
  • Decidedly, the group heads back to Wairewood to tell Prince Manse of his betrothed’s fate. Since Jacob was told he would be imprisoned if anything were to happen to Rose, he heads directly back to Merricium ahead of everyone.
  • They stop to rest at the broken tower they came across before, not wanting to intrude on the town in the dark of night.
  • A bear comes upon them in the middle of the night, but they are unharmed and the bear leaves them alone.
  • At daybreak, Venator scouts ahead to evaluate the town’s disposition, and is warned by Tiny that the Prince blames them for the death of his bride, claiming they are assassins and has declared war upon Merricium. The Prince has returned to Merikor to ready his people for battle.
  • That evening, the companions returned to the tavern where their horses are held in the stables. After taking dinner and refreshments, they each retire to their rooms.
  • However, Grisham slips out into the night to find information on the The Nouies’Vel’s movements in the city. He finds his answer to soon as he is accosted by three members.
  • Handsome Ned threatens Grisham for not discarding of the Murder Ring he was entrusted with to pin someone for his crime. Ned and his underlings let Grisham live, for now.
  • Grisham is given more time to plant the Murder Ring on some hapless soul, and returns to the tavern where his travelling companions have not been not stirred by his absence.

--

Synopsis

Upon arrival at Wairewood the party finds the gates of the town closed to travelers for the wedding, and their way inside barred.

  • Kevin (Grisham), the half-elf is able to convince a tough-looking dragonborn guard named Tiny to allow the party entrance to the town.
  • In Wairewood the party learns that the bride to be, Rose, has gone missing.
  • Manse, prince of Merikor, is not happy about his betrothed’s disappearance and is seeking any significant leads into her whereabouts.
  • The party splits up and proceeds to hunt for Jacob, and information about the missing Rose.
  • All gathered accounts state that Rose was not a runaway bride, and she did indeed wish to marry Manse.
  • It is rumored that Rose was seen leaving town with another woman, possibly her sister.
  • Meanwhile the party discovers that Jacob has been being held under guard in the town’s prison – as a suspect in Rose’s disappearance.
  • Canthereon vouches for Jacob and gives his word to meet out justice to those persons responsible for the abduction of Rose.
  • Jacob is released into the party’s care.
  • While trying to discover the path Rose might have taken out of town, the party runs into a traveling band outside the walls who (hilariously) say they saw Rose and another woman run off into the nearby forest.
  • The party heads into the woods, tracking Rose’s trail, just in time to see her attacked and killed by a strange, black, oozing dragon like creature.
  • After a long, pitched (pun intended) battle, the group is able to force the dripping fiend to flee, and it launches itself into the air, heading east.
  • Uncertain what to do with Rose’s corpse – and short on time – Rose is entombed in an ice coffin by Vincent to preserve her condition.
  • The party mounts their horses and gives chase to the creature as it flies away across the plains.

  • The party requisitions supplies and horses.
  • Upon leaving the city, Canthereon aggressively questions (interrogates) a local farmer, and discovers that the three largest towns in the area are Farendale to the north, Wairewood (in the Black Marsh) to the west, and Twilyte to the south.
  • Upon traveling north to Farendale, the party discovers a seemingly vacant town.
  • After searching thoroughly, bandits are discovered to be holding hostages in the mayor’s house on the far end of town.

  • The party decides to venture forth to Wairewood together in the next step in the search for Jacob.
